Watch a video produced by Internet2. This session (Oct 9, 2007) presents some of the major players in research and education (R&E) CI, and provides an overview of the "CI Days" program being developed to assist campuses in planning and implementing CI. |
[edit] Resources for planning
In July, 2007 EDUCAUSE hosted a CI Summit, bringing together leaders in the R1 (top research university) CIO community to identify the critical components of CI and to offer their insights as to what EDUCAUSE should do in this realm. The resulting six-page report provides recommendations for moving forward.
See Creating a five minute conversation about Cyberinfrastructure for more information and suggestions on getting started with your planning.
Download CI Days Planning Worksheet (in Microsoft Word format) to help you plan. If you'd like to talk with any of the participants while planning, please send email to campus-ci-days at internet2 dot edu, and provide some information about your campus' needs and wishes so that a person with the appropriate expertise can respond to you.
Please email the completed plan, along with any questions and/or comments to this same email address.
[edit] Some points to consider
- Identify needs and directions of growth

- Consult with your research community: What do they need in order to participate in national and global efforts, to attract highly qualified researchers and to successfully compete for funding?
- Consult with campus stakeholders and governing bodies
- Identify strategic directions for IT investments that enable the campus to meet its distinctive needs
- central IT
- libraries, data repositories, etc.
- research facilities
- research support staff
- Study critical success factors:
- common architecture
- researcher involvement
- end-user support
- collaboration infrastructure
- network services
- ubiquitous access
- learning and workforce development
- coordination of campus data center, networking, research groups
... and more.
